OBJECTIVES FOR THE EVENT:

The WNYSLC strives to identify and facilitate opportunities for community partnerships through this event. Specific outcomes we envision for this event are as follows:

  • Community partners, faculty, and community-engagement staff will identify 1 -3 potential partners for a service-learning experience.
  • Community partners, faculty, and community-engagement staff will develop ideas and a very loose framework for how the service-learning experience could be organized within this partnership.
  • Community partners will communicate the mission of their organizations and outline how service-learning could be organized with potential educational partners.

Attendees will become familiar with the WNYSLC Faculty Fellows program and note how participation in it could likely improve their future efforts at service-learning.

Note that the Faculty Fellowship program is an intensive two-day training program facilitated by nationally recognized experts, in fellows will acquire an in-depth understanding of community engagement pedagogies and their use in service-learning courses. Upon completion, participants will work with community engagement professional staff on their own campuses to convert an existing course or create a new course which incorporates service-learning.
